Consider a hypothetical general contractor with a dozen employees. An estimate gets approved, then the same cost codes get typed into scheduling, invoicing, timesheets, and a certified-payroll report.

Solutions

Name the seam before naming the fix

Fragmentation, not absence, is the actual problem. The fix for a shop like the hypothetical one above was never buy more software.

Walk one recent job from estimate to invoice and write every place the same number got typed into a different tool. Close only the named seam. Do not automate approving the estimate or signing the payroll report.
